Fiat begins to accept bookings for Fiat Urban Cross

New Delhi: Fiat came to India in 1996, shortly after liberalization. However, the Italian carmaker couldn’t make its name in India, as others like Honda, Hyundai and Toyota have done. Despite their very aesthetic Italian designs, Fiat couldn’t sell volumes due to higher prices and poor service networks.

So, Fiat has pinned its hopes on the new Fiat Urban Cross, which was showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo back in February, in Delhi. The Urban Cross shares its underpinnings with the Punto hatch, whose design aesthetics have been improved for a better visual appeal. Fiat has started accepting bookings of the Urban Cross for a deposit of Rs. 21,000.

The Fiat Urban Cross sports a smooth-finished futuristic design. Its sloping hood, sweptback headlights, new aesthetic and sophisticated front-grille all make the car look great. Foglamp provisions and the fog lamps look well carved and sculpted.

The petaled alloy wheels, side decals, roof rails on top and the high-mounted tail lights all look sporty. The rear windshield, bumper and the boot door all look well-sculpted and has all the visual cues needed to look aesthetic. All the three pillars are also black painted to render a great visual appeal from the sides.

The Fiat Urban Cross shares its petrol powertrain with the Fiat Avventura. The 1.4-litre T-Jet petrol motor makes 140 PS of power and 210 Nm of torque. The diesel motor, on the other hand, is the same 1.3-litre Multijet motor of the Punto Evo, which makes 93 PS of power and 209 Nm of max torque. Transmission of power to the front wheels is done by a five-speed manual gearbox.

Touchscreen infotainment display will have Bluetooth, AUX Connectivity with GPS Navigation in a dual-tone cabin and dash. On the safety front, airbags and ABS can be expected. Expected to launch in the last week of September, expect the Fiat also to price it around Rs. 8 to 10 lakh.
