Coronavirus India HIGHLIGHTS: Speaking about the likely Covid-19 lockdown in Maharashtra, Minister Aslam Shaikh informed that "the state government is making a fool-proof plan on what needs to be allowed and for how many days, during the lockdown. This will give sufficient time to people if they want to move somewhere or come here, and prepare them mentally, ahead of lockdown". He also revealed that the government will release strict SOPs for upcoming festivals.

50% Beds In Karnataka's Private Hospitals To Be Reserved For Covid Patients

Private hospitals in Karnataka will reserve 50 percent of beds for treating Covid patients amid surging cases, state Health Minister K. Sudhakar informed on Monday.


"Private hospitals across the state have been directed to reserve 50 percent of their beds for Covid patients as they did during the pandemic's first wave last year," Sudhakar said at a virtual meeting with the Private Hospitals and Nursing Homes Association (Phana) members.


According to the state health bulletin, 9,579 new cases were reported across the state on Sunday, with 6,387 from Bengaluru, while the infection claimed 52 lives, including 40 in this tech city during the last 24 hours.

Yet to receive SEC communication on Sputnik V approval: DRL

Hyderabad (IANS): Amid reports that the subject expert committee (SEC) has approved Dr. Reddy's Laboratories' (DRL) application for the Russian vaccine candidate Sputnik V to tackle Coronavirus pandemic, the city-based company is yet to receive official communication about the approval.


"There is no approval received yet. We are still awaiting the statement from the SEC. Once we get something, we will release a statement," a DRL official told IANS on Monday.


He said that the SEC has to first pass on the recommendation to the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) and then the latter has to give the nod.


The pharmaceutical major is expecting that this process might take a day or two.


When quizzed on the company's preparedness to produce the vaccine in large numbers, the official said 'we will be releasing details as and when we get some input there (from SEC and DCGI)'.


This development comes at a time when several Indian states are facing severe vaccine shortage and is a positive development.


Meanwhile, Dr. Reddy's scrip rallied on the bourses, reacting to the approval news reports.

Delhi Government Declares 14 Private Hospitals As 'Fully' Covid-Care Centres

New Delhi (IANS): In view of the exponential surge of Covid-19 cases in the national capital, the health department of the Delhi Government has declared as many as 14 big private hospitals as fully Covid-care centres on Monday.


The decision came hours after the Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal chaired an emergency meeting in view of the Covid-19 situation in the capital on Monday.


Those hospitals which are declared as fully Covid hospitals include Indraprastha Apollo Hospital, Sir Ganga Ram, Holy Family, Maharaja Agarsen Hospital (Punjabi Bagh), Max Hospital (Shalimar Bagh), Fortis Hospital (Shalimar Bagh), Venkateshwar Hospital, Sri Balaji Action Medical Institute, Jaipur Golden Hospital, Mata Chanan Devi Hospital, Pushpawati Singhania Research Institute, Manipal Hospital and Saroj Super Specialty Hospital.


The Delhi Government has also directed that all these hospitals declared as fully Covid hospitals will not admit any non-Covid patients till further order.


"In order to augment the bed capacity for Cvod-19 patients in view of an unprecedented surge of Covid cases in past few days, 14 private hospitals are declared as full Covid hospitals and are directed that henceforth these hospitals shall not admit any non-Covid medical/ surgical patients till further order," an order issued by the Delhi government reads.

Gujarat Reports 6,021 New Coronavirus Cases

Gujarat reports 6,021 new cases, 2,854 recoveries and 55 deaths in the last 24 hours. Currently, the state's Total cases are 3,53,516, Active cases are 30,680, along with 3,17,981 total recoveries and the Death toll has reached 4,855. Total vaccinated: 93,50,045.


'Govt Is Making A Fool-Proof Plan': Maharashtra State Min Aslam Shaikh On Lockdown

"The state government is making a fool-proof plan on what needs to be allowed and for how many days, during the lockdown. This will give sufficient time to people if they want to move somewhere or come here, and prepare them mentally, ahead of lockdown,": Maharashtra Minister Aslam Shaikh told news agency ANI.


"There'll be strict SOPs for upcoming festivals. Otherwise, you can see how there's a rise in Covid cases due to permission by a government for Haridwar Kumbh. They're the same people who defamed Tablighi Jamaat and accused them of spreading the disease,": he added.

'If cases rise, lockdown can't be ruled out': Chandigarh Admin Advisor

"Night curfew and other restrictions on gatherings and public functions can help certainly in some aspects. We can't seal borders because people come from Delhi, Haryana & Himachal Pradesh. People must follow COVID protocol and vaccination,": Manoj Parida, Advisor, Chandigarh Admin.


"Lockdown cripples the economy as it impacts livelihood. Such decisions are taken in our war room meetings after discussion with experts. We're watching our neighbouring states as well. If cases rise then the option of lockdown can't be ruled out," the advisor added.


'Corona Curfew' In Bhopal From April 13 To 19

"Today, Bhopal 'Crisis Management Group' has decided to impose 'Corona Curfew' in Bhopal, from April 13 to April 19, till 6 am. It means daily activities will continue. Inter-state & inter-district movement of essential services will be allowed,": MP Minister Vishvas Kailash Sarang informed.


"Vaccination program, hospitals, petrol pump, bank, grocery shops ambulance, fire brigade, movement of labourers, agri-services, dine-in facilities to be allowed. This is not a lockdown but 'Corona Curfew',": Vishvas Kailash Sarang added.

UP CM Yogi Adityanath Issues Strict Guidelines For Covid Management

UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has issued strict guidelines to control Coronavirus spread in the state. The chief minister, while addressing the meeting of Team 11 on Monday, said that he will neither impose lockdown nor let people die in misery.


"It is the officials' responsibility to ensure that there is no shortage of hospital beds for the patients in the state," he said.


The chief minister also recommended taking over private hospitals and labs to manage the Coronavirus situation in Uttar Pradesh. Stressing upon testing, tracing and treatment, he said, "If needed, take over the private hospitals and medical colleges to overcome the shortcomings".


He also instructed the officials to dedicate half of the 108-ambulance service for Covid patients and the remaining half for non-Covid cases.


He has set the response time for these ambulances at 15 minutes. He has laid emphasis on making the Integrated Command and Control Centre the focal point of the battle against the pandemic and monitoring its activity one by one.

Delhi Govt writes to Centre to scale up Covid beds

 Amid an unprecedented surge in coronavirus cases in the national capital, Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain said on Monday that the city government has written to the Centre to again scale up COVID beds in its hospitals here.


Asked about beds' requirements in view of escalating cases, Jain said, "We are ramping up medical infrastructure post the surge in cases and 5,000 beds have been added in last one week".

India Surpasses Brazil, Jumps to second spot in the list of most affected countries in the world

 India reported a record 168,912 COVID-19 infections overnight, data from the health ministry showed on Monday, overtaking Brazil to become the second-most affected country globally by the coronavirus.


India's overall tally reached 13.53 million, surpassing Brazil's 13.45 million cases, according to data compiled by Reuters. The United States led the global tally with 31.2 million cases.

Lockdown Only Option: Says Shiv Sena in its editorial Saamna

Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray is holding a crucial meet to discuss the lockdown situation in the state. While PM Modi had asked the country to participate in huge numbers in the Tika Utasav (vaccination festival), Shive Sena's mouthpiece has attacked Centre over not providing adeqaute Coronaviirus vaccine. 


“Isn’t it the duty of the centre to make the festival (Tika Utsav) more glowing by helping such states? BJP Maharashtra should put forth the state’s side in front of Delhi. They will get credit for people’s welfare,” Shiv Sena said in its mouthpiece ‘Saamana’ today.


“BJP had welcomed the first lockdown which was introduced by Narendra Modi. Today, our situation is much worse. Gujarat is worse than Maharashtra. Centre needs to help Maharashtra to give the package to the poor,” the editorial said.


The editorial also commented on the ongoing discussion over the lockdown in the state. “The Chief Minister says lockdown and stricter norms are inevitable, while opposition feels the economic wheel will be affected, which is natural. Fadnavis says people’s anger will burst if a lockdown is announced. Not that there is no grain of truth in it. But he should also give alternative if any. There is no option to lockdown. If he has one in mind, he should share it,” it added.

Maharashtra Covid Cases: Thane Registers Massive Surge of 6,707 Cases on a single day

Thane has added 6,733 new cases of coronavirus, raising the infection count in the Maharashtra district to 3,80,097, an official said on Monday.


These new cases were reported on Sunday, he said.


The virus also claimed the lives of 19 more people, pushing the death toll in the district to 6,707, he said.


The COVID-19 mortality rate in Thane is 1.76 per cent, he added.


The number of active cases and recovered patients was not provided by the district administration.


In neighbouring Palghar district, the COVID-19 case count stood at 58,676 and the death toll at 1,260.

Night Curfew imposed in Mathura

In view of rising COVID-19 cases, the Mathura district administration has imposed night curfew with immediate effect, an official said on Sunday. The curfew would be from 9 pm to 6 am every day, till further orders, District Magistrate (DM) Navneet Singh Chahal said.

Coronavirus HIGHLIGHTS, 12 April 2021:  India recorded  1,52,879 fresh infections reported since yesterday, setting another grim one-day record as the country's Covid tally reached over 1.33 crore cases. 839 deaths in the last 24 hours pushed the total death count to 1.69 lakh.


Active cases have seen a steady increase for the 32nd day in a row. The active cases increased to 11,08,087 comprising 8.29 per cent of the total infections, while the recovery rate further dropped to 90.44 per cent, the Health Ministry said.


This comes on a day when the country kicked off a 4-day-long “Tika Utsav” or vaccine festival to inoculate a maximum number of eligible people against the coronavirus. It is being held following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal to the chief ministers of all states and union territories during a meeting over the coronavirus situation on Saturday.


Maharashtra (14% of new tests), Uttar Pradesh (13%), and Gujarat (9%) led the list in terms of the absolute number of new tests conducted on April 10. However, in terms of tests conducted relative to the population size, Delhi, Jammu and Kashmir and Uttarakhand were the front-runners.
