The Uttar Pradesh government on Saturday suspended the kanwar yatra. The move came a day after Supreme Court on Friday asked the state government to inform it by July 19 whether it would reconsider its decision to hold a “symbolic" Kanwar Yatra.

Around 87,000 people were vaccinated against coronavirus in Delhi on Friday and less than one day's stock of vaccine was available in the city, according to official data.
According to the CoWin portal, over 71,000 beneficiaries received vaccine jabs on Saturday. The vaccination bulletin released by the Delhi government said over 92 lakh doses have been administered in the city since the inoculation exercise started on January 16.
As many as 21.88 lakh people have received both the doses. According to the Delhi government's data, the city had around 2.67 lakh vaccine doses left on Saturday morning. The health bulletin said the stock will last less than a day.
Vaccination centres across Delhi can administer around 2.26 lakh doses daily, but the inoculation number crossed the one lakh mark only once (on Tuesday) in the last one week.

The Assam government will provide one-time financial assistance of Rs 1 lakh to families of people who have died of COVID-19, State Finance Minister Ajanta Neog said on Friday.
Presenting the budget for 2021-22 in the assembly, Neog claimed this is a first-of-its-kind scheme by any government in the country. The state government had already announced the 'Chief Minister Shishu Seva Scheme' for children who lost their parents due to coronavirus and the 'Chief Minister COVID-19 Widow Support Scheme' for widows.
Under the scheme for children, an amount of Rs 3,500 will be provided per child each month. For those below 10 years who may not have an extended family or guardian, the Assam government will take steps to house them in child care institutions and provide adequate funding towards their upkeep and education.
In the other scheme, each widow is eligible for a one-time grant of Rs 2.5 lakh. The modalities for application and availing the benefit under the new schemes will be issued by the Health Department in due course, and the programmes will cost the exchequer around Rs 40 crore, the minister said.
Altogether, 4,888 deaths of adults, including 1,345 females, due to COVID-19 have been reported in the state till July 13, Neog said.

The Centre has placed an order to procure 66 crore more doses of Covishield and Covaxin to be supplied between August and December this year, at a revised price of ₹ 205 and ₹ 215 per dose, respectively, excluding taxes, official sources said.
They said 37.5 crore of Covishield doses from the Serum Institute of India and 28.5 crore Covaxin doses from Bharat Biotech will be procured by December.
"An order to procure 66 crore more doses of COVID-19 vaccines--Covishield and Covaxin--to be supplied between August and December, at a revised price of ₹ 205 and ₹ 215 per dose, respectively, excluding taxes, has been placed," the source told news agency Press Trust of India.
The price of each dose of Covishield amounts to ₹ 215.25 and Covaxin ₹ 225.75, including taxes, it said.
At least 483 more people, including 127 children, have tested positive for COVID-19 in Mizoram, pushing the state's tally to 26,690, an official statement said on Saturday.
One more fatality pushed the toll to 120, the statement said.
Aizawl district reported the maximum number of new cases at 279, followed by Kolasib at 59, Lunglei at 52, Mamit at 36, Lawngtlai at 28 and Siaha at 27.
According to the statement, 58 new cases were detected through RT-PCR test at Zoram Medical College (ZMC) here, eight via TrueNat and 417 with the help of Rapid Antigen test.
One patient has travel history, while the remaining 482 were found to have contracted the infection locally.
Mizoram currently has 5,741 active cases, while 20,829 people have recovered from the infection.
The recovery rate stands at 78 per cent and the fatality rate at 0.44 per cent.
Over 5.51 lakh samples have been tested thus far, including 5,026 on Friday, the statement added.
State immunisation officer Dr Lalzawmi said as many as six lakh people have been inoculated in Mizoram, of which over 1.2 lakh have received both the doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.
Meanwhile, the state government has revised the discharge protocol.
A meeting of all stakeholders were held on Thursday, following which it was decided that a person, after 10 days of treatment, may be released from COVID care facilities without having to undergo the discharge test, provided he or she does not have fever or any other symptom in the last three days, official sources here said.
Earlier, it was mandatory for the patient to obtain a COVID-negative report to be able to secure his or her release from the care facility.

The COVID-19 positivity rate in West Bengal on Friday declined to 1.54 per cent as 882 new cases of the infection were reported from various parts of the state, the health department said in a bulletin.
The tally thus rose to 15,13,877, it added.
The death toll went up to 17,944 after 17 more fatalities were registered in the last 24 hours.
North 24 Parganas district accounted for three deaths while Kolkata registered one fatality, the bulletin said.
Since Thursday, 1,186 recoveries were reported in the state which improved the discharge rate further to 97.88 per cent. So far, 14,81,742 people have recovered from the disease in West Bengal.
The number of active cases now is at 14,191.
In the last 24 hours, 46,909 samples were tested for Covid-19 in West Bengal taking the total number of such clinical examinations to 1,48,61,930, the bulletin added.
Meanwhile, 3,25,794 people were inoculated in the state on Friday, a health department official said.
Punjab on Friday reported 104 fresh cases of coronavirus, raising the infection count to 5,98,130, while two more deaths pushed the fatality toll to 16,215, a medical bulletin said.
The two deaths were reported from Kapurthala and Muktsar, it said.
Ferozepur reported 20 infections, followed by 15 in Bathinda and 13 in Jalandhar, as per the bulletin.
The number of active cases in the state is 1,238.
With 194 more recoveries, the number of cured persons reached 5,80,677, it stated.
A total of 1,15,67,826 samples have been collected for testing so far in the state, it said.
Chandigarh reported only one COVID-19 case in the past 24 hours.
The infection tally stood at 61,862, according to the bulletin. The total count also includes five cases that were not reported earlier.
With no death reported in the past 24 hours, the fatality figure stood at 809.
The number of active cases in the UT is 58, as per the bulletin.

Coronavirus HIGHLIGHTS, Saturday, July 17: With the pandemic's second wave curve flattening, new Covid cases dipped below 2,000 in a day, while deaths declined to 42 in Karnataka, said the state health bulletin on Friday.
"Only 1,806 new cases were registered on Thursday, taking the state's Covid tally to 28,80,370, including 31,399 active cases, while recoveries increased to 28,12,869, with 2,748 patients discharged during the day," said the bulletin.
As epicentre of the pandemic in the state, Bengaluru, however, reported only 411 fresh cases on Thursday, taking its Covid tally to 12,21,371, including 12,376 active cases, while 11,93,213 recovered, with 549 patients discharged in the last 24 hours.
The virus claimed 42 lives, including 10 in Bengaluru, taking the state's death toll to 36,079 and the city's toll to 15,781 since the pandemic broke out in mid-March a year ago.
