A woman can get vaccinated against COVID-19 anytime after the delivery of her baby, healthcare experts have said and stressed on the need to permit vaccination of even pregnant women to protect them from the infection.
The government recently allowed vaccination for lactating mothers.
The NITI Aayog Member (Health) has stressed that there is no problem in breastfeeding after vaccination and it must not be halted "even for an hour".
Healthcare experts have also said that a woman can get vaccinated against COVID-19 anytime after the delivery of her baby.
Dr Khan Amir Maroof, Professor, Department of Community Medicine, University College of Medical Sciences and GTB Hospital, Delhi, said there is no risk to the neonate from a vaccinated, breastfeeding mother.
"There is no reason to delay the vaccination after delivery," he said.
Further, he said, no specific precautions need to be taken by lactating women in view of vaccination and the same precautions which apply to the general population are applicable to them as well.
"In today's meet with CBSE, we discussed that providing safe environment for students is our priority. We will tell the SC that last year was unfortunate for students. Alarmed by over 2,000 cases of mucormycosis or “black fungus” reported in Covid-19 patients, the Gujarat government has declared it “epidemic” and made it a notifiable disease under the Epidemic Diseases Act.
As per the central government data, Gujarat currently has 2,281 mucormycosis patients — the highest for any state in the country. The disease has claimed more than 250 lives in the state so far.
The decision by the Gujarat government was taken on Thursday during a core committee meeting chaired by Chief Minister Vijay Rupani.

Uttar Pradesh government has announced that vaccination for 18+ will be available in all districts of the state from June 1st. The state government is already preparing for the third Covid wave and have instructed authorities to build separate wards for children.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday said those indulging in black-marketing of Remdesivir injections in the state are being booked under the stringent National Security Act (NSA).
He also said properties of those hoarding or black-marketing life-saving medicines will be seized.
Adityanath, who was on a visit to Kanpur, said efforts are being made to ensure that the pace of COVID-19 vaccination picks up across the state next month.
The state government will contain the second wave of COVID-19 by the end of this month, he added.
He also said that government is making necessary arrangements for the treatment of black fungus as well as improving infrastructure in children hospitals.
The Delhi Police has registered more than 600 cases and arrested over 300 people in connection with Covid-related crimes, officials said on Saturday.
According to the data shared by police, 109 cases of alleged hoarding and black-marketing of oxygen cylinders and coronavirus drugs were registered between April 13 and May 18.
While 492 cases of alleged cheating of people on the pretext of providing them Covid-related help were lodged during the same period, police said.
A total of 312 people have been apprehended, they said, adding most of the arrests were made outside the national capital.
Police have blocked around 300 bank accounts and more than 900 phone numbers. The cheated amount recovered during this period would be in crores, they said.
A total of 3,152 items, including 557 Remdesivir injections, 808 oxygen concentrators, 537 fire extinguisher cylinders, 683 pulse oximeters and 288 oxygen cylinders have been seized, they said.
The data will be updated as the Delhi Police and Cyber Cell helplines continue to receive several calls every day about these scams, police said.
Noted author Chetan Bhagat has said that India needs to learn and improve its healthcare from the current crisis caused by the devastating spread of coronavirus cases in the country.
Speaking at a gathering organised by the Gulf Maharashtra Business Forum (GMBF) here on Saturday, Bhagat also said that India did not take the vaccines seriously in 2020 unlike other nations.
This crisis should help India learn its lessons, especially in the healthcare sector. It is ok to make mistakes as long as we accept it, Bhagat said.
When it (COVID-19) gets over, we must change. We all have changed to an extent. The change will be in personal sphere, the business sphere and how and what we can learn as a nation. The only good thing about a crisis is a lesson, Bhagat added.

He added that the country needs to fight mucormycosis as the “disease has now taken the shape of an outbreak as it is affecting Covid-19 patients”.
Paul said steroids do help in treating Covid-19 complications and it is touted as a “wonder drug”, but inappropriate doses can invite the risk of black fungus.

States across the country on Saturday extended restrictions amid a surge in coronavirus disease (Covid-19) cases. Tamil Nadu extended the lockdown enforced to check the spread of the pandemic. Chief minister MK Stalin announced that the ongoing lockdown, slated to end on May 24, will continue for another week in the state.
The Uttar Pradesh government also extended the partial corona curfew by a week till May 31.
The Jammu and Kashmir administration also extended the ‘corona curfew’ till May 31 in the wake of a surge in Covid cases.
