New Delhi: A day after reporting 2.63 lakh new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, India recorded 2,67,334 fresh infections of Coronavirus, 3,89,851 discharges and 4529 deaths in last 24 hours. As per the Union Health Ministry, this is the highest death count in a single day.


With this, the total number of Coronavirus cases recorded till date are 2,54,96,330 while the death toll stands at 2,83,248. As many as 2,19,86,363 patients have recovered and been discharged from hospitals while there are 32,26,719 active cases of novel Coronavirus present in the country.

Indian Council of Medical Research on Wednesday reported that 32,03,01,177 samples tested for Covid-19 up to 18th May 2021. Of these, 20,08,296 samples were tested yesterday. 


The central government has claimed a clear positive trend in COVID-19 recoveries in India. The Union Health Ministry informed that 1.8 per cent of the total population of India has been affected by the disease so far and the case positivity rate currently stands at 14.10 per cent in the country.
