Centre Acting With Vengeance: Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan Over Govt Slashing State's Borrowing Limit

Vijayan said that the Centre was reducing the funds of Kerala due to the state's achievements but it should instead give more funds due to the achievements of Kerala.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan attacked BJP-led NDA government and said that the Union government was showing a "vengeful attitude" towards the Left government. The Kerala CM also attacked the Centre over slashing borrowing limit of the state.

According to PTI, Vijayan while addressing the Non-Gazetted Officers (NGO) Union conference said, the Opposition Congress in Kerala was not ready to utter a word against Centre despite facing issues due to the policies of BJP.

On the reduction in Kerala's borrowing limit, Vijayan said, the reduction was "part of the Union government's political vendetta".

"Our state can normally borrow 3.5 per cent of the GDP. The Union government has given permission for that. This financial year, our state expects a GSDP of Rs 11,70,000 crore. That means we can borrow Rs 33,420 crore. Based on this calculation, we prepare our annual budget and plan other development projects. However, the Centre is acting with vengeance towards Kerala," Vijayan said.

The Kerala CM also accused BJP of refusing to help Kerala during back-to-back natural disasters. Vijayan said that the state faced 2018 floods, 2019 monsoon, the COVID pandemic and before all these, Ockhi and Nipah.

“All these were unbearable for our state. The flood destroyed the entire state. The whole world was wondering how we overcame the disaster and rebuilt ourselves. We did it because of our unity," he said.

The CM said that the BJP was reducing the funds of Kerala due to the state's achievements in various sectors including health, education among others. However, Vijayan said that the Centre should give more funds due to the achievements of Kerala.

Vijayan said the Congress leaders were not criticising the anti-Kerala policies of the BJP and were in fact supporting them.
