India Meteorological Department (IMD) says that conditions are favourable for the monsoon to start withdrawing from some parts of northwest India on Wednesday, marking its second-most delayed withdrawal in the last 41 years. Breaking News LIVE: Rajasthan CM Gehlot Urges Centre To Start Paddy Procurement In State

Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot has written to Union Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Piyush Goyal, urging him to start procurement of paddy on the support price in the state at the earliest.

According to a statement, Gehlot said 2.62 lakh metric tonnes of paddy is estimated to be produced during 2021-22 in Hanumangarh and Sri Ganganagar districts and in such a situation, a target of procuring 50,000 metric tonnes of paddy on the support price should be fixed.

He wrote that the Union government has set a target of doubling the income of farmers by 2022 and the purchase of agricultural commodities at support price has a direct impact on their income.

Gehlot said if the procurement is not started early, then these farmers will not be able to get the proper price for their produce like last year and they will have to suffer financial losses.

Meanwhile, all eyes will also be on Lakhimpur Kheri as the opposition parties are trying to gain ground with the incident happening almost close to the UP Assembly Elections 2022.


On Sunday, a car, which allegedly had Minister of State for Home Affairs Ajay Mishra's son, mowed down farmers protesting the Centre's newly introduced agrarian laws at Lakhimpur Kheri. Violence ensued after this horrific incident which left 8 dead including 4 farmers. 


On Monday, the Yogi government announced Rs 45 Lakh ex gratia and a government job for the kin of the deceased in the incident.


The announcement was made in a joint press conference by BKU’s Rakesh Tikait and UP Additional DG, Law and Order, Prashant Kumar. It is understood that the demands of farmers have been met with FIRs being lodged under relevant sections, also including Ashish Mishra's name. A judicial probe has also been promised in the Lakhimpur Kheri violence.


Meanwhile, in order to control the situation, the UP police have imposed Section 144 of the CrPC and not allowed politicians to be near ground zero.


Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has been detained at Sitapur guesthouse, Chhattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel and Punjab CM Charanjit Channi were not allowed to land in Lucknow, SP chief Akhilesh Yadav hasn’t been allowed to move out of his Lucknow home, BSP and TMC leaders have also been stopped.


Besides the political upheaval, much commotion is around the arrest of Aryan Khan, Bollywood star Shar Rukh Khan's son, who has been sent to extended NCB's custody till Thursday.


Aryan, Munmun Dhamecha, and Arbaz Merchant were arrested by the NCB on Sunday and were sent to one-day custody. The three accused were produced before the court on Monday, which sent them to further custody till Thursday.
