Punjab CM Channi-led delegation to seek appointment from PM Modi over BSF jurisdiction issue

Chandigarh (ANI): A delegation led by Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi will seek an appointment from Prime Minister Narendra Modi to urge him to withdraw the notification for extending the jurisdiction of the Border Security Force (BSF). The decision came after the conclusion of the all-party meeting called by Channi on Monday to discuss the extension of BSF jurisdiction. Channi-led delegation of all political parties will meet the Prime Minister following the appointment. As per a statement issued by the Punjab government, "At an all-party meeting in Chandigarh today, it was decided to seek an appointment from the PM so as to enable the Punjab CM to lead a delegation of all political parties to urge him to withdraw the contentious notification for extending the jurisdiction of BSF."


Earlier in the day, leaders from various political parties were seen arriving at Punjab Bhawan for the meeting. The main opposition party, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), was represented by Bhagwant Mann and Aman Arora whereas Daljit Cheema and Chandumajra represented Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) representatives. Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa and state Finance Minister Manpreet Singh Badal were among those who attended the meeting. Meanwhile, BJP's Punjab unit decided to boycott the meeting stating that there is no conflict between the BSF and the state police. (ANI)

A BJP-led delegation of three displaced Kashmiri Pandit organisations called on Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday and demanded the construction of two-bedroom quarters for the migrant employees from the community recruited under the prime minister's special recruitment programme in the Kashmir valley, besides security and an insurance coverage for them.

They also demanded the constitution of an apex committee and a welfare board for the displaced people.

The seven-member delegation, led by Jammu and Kashmir BJP spokesperson and former MLA G L Raina, met Shah at the Raj Bhawan here, officials said. The other members of the delegation included former Jammu and Kashmir chief secretary and Apni Party leader Vijay Bakaya, Youth All India Kashmiri Samaj (YAIKS) chief R K Bhat, All India Kashmiri Samaj (AIKS) leader A K Raina and Kashmiri Pandit Sabha (KPS) chief K K Khosa.

They demanded security for the non-migrant Kashmiri Pandit employees in the valley, transfer of such employees from far-flung areas to nearby safe areas and a comprehensive insurance package for them.

Nearly 3,000 Kashmiri Pandit employees recruited under the prime minister's special recruitment package have been appointed in the valley since 2010.

The delegation also demanded security to temples, distress sale of land and the setting up of a welfare board for Kashmir Pandits, the officials said.

It demanded the formation of an advisory council of Kashmiri Pandits to work under the minister of home affairs to come up with a plan for full restorative justice for the community.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate nine medical colleges and launch several development projects in Uttar Pradesh today during a visit to the poll-bound state.

He will inaugurate medical colleges from Siddharthnagar and will launch later in Varanasi "Pradhan Mantri Atmanirbhar Swasth Bharat Yojana", the PMO said in a statement and added that he will also inaugurate various development projects worth more than Rs 5,200 crore for his Lok Sabha constituency.

Prime Minister Atmanirbhar Swasth Bharat Yojana (PMASBY) will be one of the largest pan-India scheme for strengthening healthcare infrastructure and will be in addition to the National Health Mission, the PMO said.

Its objective is to fill gaps in public health infrastructure, especially in critical care facilities and primary care in both urban and rural areas. It will provide support for 17,788 rural health and wellness centres in 10 high focus states. Further, 11,024 urban health and wellness centres will be established in all the states.

Breaking News Highlights, October 25, 2021: Hello and Welcome to ABP News LIVE Blog! Prime Minister Narendra Modi will today launch the Pradhan Mantri Atmanirbhar Swasth Bharat Yojana (PMASBY), worth 64,180 crores, to strengthen the health care infrastructure across the country.


According to a statement by the press information bureau, the Prime Minister will inaugurate the project from his parliamentary constituency Varanasi, during a visit to poll-bound Uttar Pradesh. Besides this, he will also inaugurate nine new medical colleges at Siddharth Nagar, the bureau added.


“Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Uttar Pradesh on 25th October, 2021… at around 1.15 in Varanasi, the Prime Minister will launch PMASBY. It will be one of the largest pan-India schemes for strengthening healthcare infrastructure across the country. It will be in addition to the National Health Mission,” a note by the press information bureau said on Sunday.


The PMASBY scheme with an outlay of around 64,180 crore over six years (till financial year 2025-26) was announced by the Centre during the Budget session in February this year. This scheme will be in addition to the National Health Mission, the statement said.


Fully vaccinated travellers, who are coming from a country with which India has reciprocal arrangements for mutual acceptance of World Health Organization (WHO) approved Covid-19 vaccines, shall be allowed to leave the airport and need not undergo home quarantine and testing from Monday, according to the revised guidelines for international arrivals released on Wednesday.


They will, however, have to produce a negative Covid-19 RT-PCR report. These guidelines for international arrivals supersede all others issued on and after February 17 this year, the Union health ministry has said.
