A special NIA court in Gujarat has convicted two persons in a fake currency conspiracy case and sentenced them to 10 years and seven years of rigorous imprisonment. Sanjay Kumar Mohanbhai Devaliya has been awarded 10 years of rigorous imprisonment with a fine of Rs 10,000. The other person, Tahir alias Kaliya, has been sentenced to seven years of rigorous imprisonment along with a Rs 10,000 fine under different sections of the Indian Penal Code, an NIA spokesperson said, as quoted by the news agency PTI.
The official said the NIA special court in Ahmedabad passed the judgment in the case which was originally registered in 2018 by Gujarat ATS on specific inputs shared by the agency. The NIA had later taken over the investigation.

Thirty-nine people went missing after a Chinese fishing vessel capsized in the central part of the Indian Ocean, the official media here reported on Wednesday. A total of 17 Chinese crew members, 17 Indonesians, and five from the Philippines were on board the vessel when it capsized on Tuesday, state-run CGTN reported.
So far, none of the missing persons have been found and a search is underway, the report said. Meanwhile, Chinese President Xi Jinping ordered all-out efforts in the rescue of the missing people in the boat tragedy. Xi gave the instruction following the incident that occurred around 3 am on Tuesday, urging relevant departments to activate the emergency response mechanism immediately, the state-run Xinhua news agency reported.

Supreme Court To Hear Pleas Related To Manipur Violence
The Supreme Court, which had asked the Centre and the Manipur government to file a status report on the recent violence in the state, will hear the matter on May 17. Petitioners have demanded a SIT inquiry into the Manipur unrest.
In the last hearing, Supreme Court directed the Centre to ensure all remedial steps are taken in the violence-hit state and stressed the need to arrange for food and medicines at relief camps housing the displaced people and protect places of worship in the state.
"All remedial steps will be taken care of by the solicitor general. We emphasize the need for arrangements to be made in relief camps - foods and medicine, necessary precaution for the rehabilitation of displaced people, and protecting places of worship. Authorities will make necessary arrangements for the medical needs at the Army hospital or any other hospital," Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud had said.
Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for the Centre as well as the state government, had informed the bench about the steps taken to deal with the violence and said 52 companies of Central Armed Police Force, besides Army and Assam Rifles contingents have been deployed in the strife-torn areas.

Union Minister Jitendra Singh To Inaugurate All-India Pension Adalat
Union Minister Jitendra Singh will inaugurate an all-India pension adalat here on Wednesday, where chronic cases will be taken up and resolved, an official statement issued on Tuesday said.
Till date seven all-India pension adalats have been organised, in which 24,218 cases were taken up and 17,235 cases were resolved, PTI reported.
The pension adalat initiative was started on an experimental basis in 2017 by the Department of Pension and Pensioners’ Welfare. In 2018, national pension adalat was held by leveraging technology for the speedy resolution of pensioners’ grievances.
According to the model adopted, all stakeholders to a particular grievance are invited on a common platform and the case is resolved as per every stakeholder to complete the pension processing so that the pension is started on time.
Singh, the Minister of State for Personnel, will also preside over the 50th pre-retirement counselling (PRC) workshop in New Delhi on Wednesday.
"Conducted by Department of Pension & Pensioners’ Welfare, this PRC is being organised for 1,200 officers of all ministries/departments who are going to retire in next 6 months," said the statement issued by the personnel ministry.
