(PTI) The Allahabad High Court has sought information from the Uttar Pradesh government on the ban on the sale of meat and other non-vegetarian items in 22 wards of Mathura-Vrindavan Municipal Corporation while hearing a petition challenging the move.
A division bench comprising Justice Saumitra Dayal Singh and Justice Shekhar Kumar Yadav will hear the matter next on March 9. The bench asked the state's counsel to seek instructions from the government on the issue.
The petition was filed by Mujahid and eight others.
It is to note that on September 10 last year, an additional chief secretary in the state government passed an order and declared 22 municipal wards of Mathura as "holy pilgrimage" site. Subsequently, on September 11, the District Food Security Officer (DFSO) of Mathura passed an order suspending the registration licence of meat shops and restaurants in these areas.
The petitioners have requested the court to direct the authorities not to interfere in their business of selling mutton, chicken and other non vegetarian items.
The petitioners requested the court to quash the order dated September 11, 2021 passed by the DFSO, Mathura.
As an interim relief, the petitioner has requested the court to stay the operation of the notification passed by the DFSO, otherwise the petitioners shall suffer irreparable loss.
The petitioners have challenged the aforesaid orders on the ground that these have deprived them of the right to livelihood and therefore are violative of Article 14 (right to equality), Article 19 (1) (g) (right to carry on trade and profession) and Article 21 (right to life and personal liberty) of the Constitution. (PTI) Delhi AAP MLA Akhilesh Pati Tripathi sustained serious injuries on Thursday after his car overturned on the Lucknow-Agra expressway in Uttar Pradesh's Unnao while he was returning from the Assembly poll campaigning, party said.
Five other people who were travelling with Tripathi in the car sustained minor injuries in the incident, AAP's Uttar Pradesh unit spokesperson Mahendra Singh said in a statement.
Tripathi, along with his associates, was returning from Gorakhpur after participating in the party's poll campaigning when the incident took place in the Behta Mujawar police station area, he said.
His car overturned as one of its wheels suddenly came off, he said.
"The MLA sustained critical injuries in the accident as he was sitting in the front seat of the car," he said.
After the incident, the Delhi Model Town MLA was rushed to Medanta Hospital in Lucknow for treatment.
"The doctors have said that he is out of danger," Singh said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to address a webinar on the theme called "Energy for Sustainable Growth" on Friday comprising Ministries of Power, Petroleum and Natural Gas, New and Renewable Energy, Coal, Mines, External Affairs and Environment Forest and Climate Change.
The webinar will discuss the initiatives of the Union Government in the energy and resources sector including the Budget 2022 announcements and elicit ideas and suggestions for effective implementation of these initiatives.
The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) in its official statement said the webinar will have three different sessions. The plenary session from 10: 00 am to 10:30 am would be addressed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This session will be followed by six thematic breakout sessions which would take place parallelly from 10.30 am to 12.45 pm. The concluding session to be held from 2:00 pm to 3: 10 pm will be chaired by Minister for Power and New and Renewable Energy RK Singh. MNRE will be conducting the breakout session on "Scaling up of Renewable Energy" which will be moderated by Indu Shekhar Chaturvedi, Secretary, MNRE and will have eminent speakers from the public and private sector.
The session aims to seek suggestions from stakeholders and industry leaders to create a conducive ecosystem for the manufacturing of next-generation solar PV modules and key aspects of building a robust hydrogen economy, the statement from the Ministry added further.
Meanwhile, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur will present the fifth and last budget of his government in the house today. On March 3, the budget for the financial year 2022-23 was approved in the cabinet. After presenting the budget in the house, it will be discussed and be passed in the house on March 15.
Notably, Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao will meet his Jharkhand counterpart Hemant Soren today. Rao will undertake a tour of Jharkhand State to fulfill his promise given to extend support to the families of Indian Army soldiers who lost their lives in the Galwan Valley clash at the Chinese border.
In this regard, Rao will go to Ranchi on Friday to hand over the cheques of Rs 10 Lakh, to the families of the two soldiers from Jharkhand who lost their lives in the clashes, along with Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren at his official residence in Ranchi.
The Telangana government had extended support to Col Santosh who lost his life in the Galwan clashes and who belonged to the Telangana. The Chief Minister then announced that the state government would extend help to 19 Army personnel who were martyred in the same clash. To keep the promise, the CM would go to Jharkhand and give financial assistance to the two Jawans who were martyred.
Due to the polls in several states, the model code of conduct is in place, after the polls, the CM will extend help to other Jawans who were martyred at Galwan, as promised.
