Congress Announces Protest Over IT Notices
The Congress party has declared its intention to stage a protest on Saturday following the receipt of fresh notices from the Income Tax (IT) department, demanding payment of Rs 1823.08 crores. The party has accused the IT department of engaging in a "patently illegal and undemocratic action" by reopening eight years of income tax returns on "baseless, manufactured grounds." This move has resulted in the levy of "patently illegal Income Tax Demand orders totalling thousands of crores of rupees," according to a statement issued by Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal.
Venugopal's statement called the action by the IT department a "blatant and naked attack on the very principals of democracy." In response to these developments, the Congress has called upon its Pradesh Congress Committees (PCCs) to organize "massive public demonstrations" at state and district headquarters across the country. These protests are set to take place on Saturday and the following day, involving senior party leaders and functionaries. Additionally, demonstrations led by party candidates will be held in all constituencies, along with Mashal Juloos events conducted by District Congress Committees.
