PM Modi To Launch BJP’s Poll Campaign In Karnataka Today

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to kickstart the BJP's Lok Sabha election campaign in Karnataka on Saturday, marking his presence in Congress President M Mallikarjun Kharge's stronghold of Kalaburagi.

Scheduled to address a massive public gathering at 2 pm in the N V Ground of the district headquarters town, PM Modi's visit signifies a strategic move by the BJP in this region.

Kharge, a veteran leader who has represented Kalaburagi (formerly Gulbarga Lok Sabha segment) twice before, faced defeat in the 2019 general elections at the hands of BJP's Umesh Jadhav, losing by a margin of 95,452 votes. This marked the first electoral loss in Kharge's extensive political career spanning several decades. The BJP has once again nominated Jadhav from the segment.

Speculation is rife that Kharge, the Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, may not contest the upcoming polls. Instead, the Congress is likely to field his son-in-law Radhakrishna Doddamani, a businessman and manager of educational institutions.

Following his visit to Kalaburagi, PM Modi is slated to visit Shivamogga on March 18, the home district of veteran BJP leader BS Yediyurappa. Here, he is scheduled to address another significant public gathering at 2 pm.

Yediyurappa's son, B Y Raghavendra, currently holds the MP position from Shivamogga and has been nominated once again by the BJP. Additionally, Yediyurappa's other son,  Y Vijayendra, who represents the Shikaripura assembly constituency in the district, serves as the state BJP President.

PM Modi's visits to these key regions underscore the BJP's strategic approach towards the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in Karnataka, aiming to consolidate its hold in these crucial constituencies.
