SKM Declares Statewide Stir On March 13

The Punjab chapter of the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) has announced that on March 13, it will burn effigies of the Union government in all districts of Punjab to protest CBI raids at the homes of two SKM leaders. In addition, on March 20, the BKU will organise a rally near Parliament House in Delhi to lobby for the remaining demands.

The decisions were made during a meeting of 32 farmer organisations on Friday afternoon in Ludhiana.

The CBI examined different premises of BKU president Ajmer Singh Lakhowal on February 21 as part of their statewide search. A gas pump in Samala, his son Harinder Singh Lakhowal's residence in Mohali, and assets belonging to Indian Farmers Association president Satnam Singh Behru, who lives in Patiala, were among the properties searched.

Harinder Singh Lakhowal is the general secretary of the BKU's Lakhowal unit, and his father was the chairman of the Mandi board from 2012 to 2017.
