Delhi Water Crisis: Atishi To Sit On Indefinite Hunger Strike From Friday
Delhi Water Minister Atishi announced she will begin an indefinite hunger strike at Bhogal in south Delhi starting Friday noon to demand 100 million gallons of water per day from Haryana.
During a press conference, Atishi mentioned that she would first visit Rajghat at 11 AM on Friday to pay tribute to Mahatma Gandhi, emphasizing that Satyagraha was the only option left since no water was being provided to Delhi.
"Delhi requires 1,005 MGD of water out of which 613 MGD comes from Haryana. Since the last two weeks, Haryana has reduced this to 513 MGD. The 100 MGD less water has caused around 28 lakh people in the city to crave every drop of water," she said, PTI reported.
Atishi claimed that Haryana has refused to release the necessary water, and her letter to the Prime Minister has not resolved the issue, leaving her no choice but to undertake a hunger strike for Delhi's rightful share of water and for the 2.8 million affected residents.
