Interim Govt Headed By Yunus To Take Oath On Thursday: Bangladesh Army Chief

Nobel laureate Prof Muhammad Yunus-led interim government will take oath on Thursday, Bangladesh's Army Chief General Waker-Uz-Zaman said.

Addressing a press conference on Wednesday, General Waker said the interim government is likely to be sworn in at 8:00pm on Thursday.

He also said the advisory council may have 15 members. The 84-year-old economist, was appointed on Tuesday as the head of interim government by President Mohammed Shahabuddin. His appointment came a day after Sheikh Hasina resigned as the country's Prime Minister and fled to India, following violent uprising against her government, which started as a protest against controversial quota system in government jobs.

On Wednesday, Yunus was acquitted in a labour law violations case. Besides him, three other officials of Grameen Telecom were also acquitted by the Labour Appellate Tribunal.

Election Commission To Meet Political Parties In J&K

The Election Commission of India will visit Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday to meet political parties and get their feedback on conducting Assembly polls in the Union Territory.

The office of the chief electoral officer, Jammu and Kashmir, issued letters to various political parties, inviting them for a meeting with the Election Commission (EC). The political parties have been given time slots for the meeting with the poll body.  

The visit comes weeks before the Supreme Court's September 30 deadline to hold electionsin the UT.

The EC, led by Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar, is set to visit J&K from August 8-10 to review preparedness for Assembly polls. Kumar will be accompanied by Election Commissioners Gyanesh Kumar and S S Sandhu.

Uttarakhand CM Urges Union Jal Shakti Minister To Approve Pending Hydropower Projects In Alaknanda, Bhagirathi Valleys

The Chief Minister met with the Union Jal Shakti Minister to discuss the state's pending hydropower projects. He requested approval to begin projects with over 50 percent of the construction work proposed in the Alaknanda and Bhagirathi river valleys.

Additionally, he sought permission to develop proposed projects in other river valleys in Uttarakhand, excluding the Ganga and its tributaries.
