Breaking News LIVE — 2 Boys Drown In Water-Filled Pit At Abandoned Quarry In Chhattisgarh’s Bilaspur

Two boys drowned while bathing in a water-filled pit at an abandoned quarry in Chhattisgarh's Bilaspur district, police said on Monday, as reported by news agency PTI. The incident took place at the abandoned murram quarry on Bahtarai-Bijaur road under the Sarkanda police station area on Sunday evening, said J P Gupta, station house officer (SHO) of Sarkanda.


Abhishek Ahirwar and Ishan Ahirwar, both aged 12 years, were bathing in the pit when they drowned, he said. Some locals informed the relatives of the boys and called an ambulance, the official said, PTI reported.

Breaking News LIVE — Man Stuck In 70-Ft-Deep Pit In Jalandhar For Over 35 Hours; Rescue Ops On

Efforts are underway to rescue a 55-year-old worker stuck in a 70-feet-deep trench for more than 35 hours in Punjab's Jalandhar district, officials said on Monday, as reported by news agency PTI. The man, identified as Suresh, along with another worker on Saturday entered the pit dug as part of the ongoing construction for the Delhi-Katra Expressway to free some part of the boring machine that got stuck underneath.


While the other worker came out, Suresh got trapped after the earth fell on him, officials said. The pit was dug to erect a pillar as part of the expressway project. The rescue operation that started on Saturday evening continued throughout Sunday as well but Suresh is yet to be rescued, the news agency reported.

BSF PRO, Punjab Frontier, said, "On August 14, 2023, at about 12:30 AM, Border Security Force (BSF) troops observed suspicious movement of a Pakistani miscreant or intruder ahead of Border fencing in the area falling near the bordering Simbal Sakol village, under Pathankot district. Troops challenged the miscreant or intruder, but he did not stop and continued moving ahead towards the border fencing. Sensing an imminent threat and to stop further misadventure, BSF troops fired upon the miscreant in self-defence, neutralising him on the spot while the intruder was trying to negotiate the Border Fencing," as quoted by news agency ANI.

Punjab: CM Mann To Inaugurate 76 'Aam Aadmi Clinics' Today: 


Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann will open 76 'Aam Aadmi Clinics' on August 14, news agency PTI reported citing Health Minister Balbir Singh on Sunday.


According to the report, the chief minister will be in Sangrur for the inauguration. The state currently has 583 'Aam Aadmi Clinics,' including 403 in villages and 180 in cities, it said.


More than 44 lakh people have used these clinics' free services, and over 20 lakh medical tests have been performed. The AAP government established these clinics last year. Singh also stated that the state government will upgrade 40 government medical facilities in the state, including 19 district hospitals, six subdivision hospitals, and 15 community health centres, the report said.


Bengal: University Teachers To Hold Emergency Meeting To Discuss Student's Death On Aug 14: 


On Monday, teachers at Jadavpur University will hold an emergency meeting to discuss the death of an undergraduate student as a result of ragging.  Three people have been arrested, including two JU students and a former student, for their alleged involvement in the ragging of the 17-year-old, who died on August 10 after falling from the balcony of the boys' main hostel.


Police have taken note of JU students' social media posts, including photographs, that suggest sexual harassment was involved in the deceased's ragging.


"The boarders definitely tormented him." Passive sexual harassment is possible. "We're looking into it," a senior police officer told news agency PTI.


Nepal's Vice Prez Yadav To embark On Week-Long China Trip On Monday: 


Nepali Vice President Ramsahay Prasad Yadav is set to commence a week-long official trip to China on Monday. During the visit, he will participate in the 7th China-South Asia Exposition and the 27th China Kunming Import & Export Fair, held in Kunming City from August 16 to 20. As a key participant, Vice President Yadav is slated to address the official opening of the China-South Asia Expo, where Nepal is featured as a 'Theme Country,' showcasing products from over 100 Nepali traders, news agency PTI reported citing Foreign Ministry sources.
