JD(S) worker attacked by miscreants in Karnataka's Mandya, case registered

Unidentified miscreants allegedly attacked a Janata Dal (Secular) worker with a machete and Knife near a temple in Karnaraka's Mandya district, police said on Saturday, as reported by ANI. The victim JD (S) worker has been identified as Appu Gowda, they said. 


According to the Maddur police, locals rushed to the spot and rescued the victim from the clutches of assailants, who managed to flee from the spot after the incident. Police further said the victim sustained injuries and was admitted to a nearby hospital.

Maharashtra Man Cheated Of Rs 5 Crore In Land Deal, 5 Booked

An offence has been registered against five persons associated with a real estate firm for allegedly cheating a man of Rs 5 crore in a land deal in Maharashtra's Thane district, police said on Saturday, as reported by news agency PTI. The Naupada police on August 9 registered a case against five persons, including a couple and their daughter who own the firm, under sections 406 (criminal breach of trust), 420 (cheating) and other relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code, the official said.

Uttarakhand Rains: 5 Killed In Landslide In Rudraprayag, CM Dhami Visits Rain-Hit Kotwar

Five people, including three pilgrims from Gujarat, died after being buried under the debris of a landslide on the Kedarnath Yatra route in Rudraprayag district as the MeT department on Friday warned of heavy rains in six districts of Uttarakhand for the next few days, as reported by news agency PTI.


Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami undertook a ground inspection of the rain-hit Kotdwar area where a man had gone missing in a landslide a couple of days ago and several bridges were damaged, cutting off a large population from the rest of the state.


Assembly Speaker and local MLA Ritu Khanduri was also present with Dhami doing his ground inspection.


Dhami directed Pauri District Magistrate Ashish Chauhan to work on the repair of the damaged bridge in Gadighati. He also inspected the alternative bridge over Malan River connecting Kotdwar and Bhabar.

PM Modi To Lay Foundation Stone For Sant Ravidas Temple, Address Rally In MP's Sagar On Saturday:


Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to embark on his second visit to Madhya Pradesh, where he is scheduled to lay the foundation stone for a notable Rs 100-crore temple dedicated to the revered 14th-century mystic poet and social reformer, Sant Ravidas. The temple, symbolising a tribute to India's rich cultural and spiritual heritage, is situated in the poll-bound district of Sagar, according to a statement issued by his office on Friday. 


During his visit, Prime Minister Modi will also engage with the public, addressing a gathering in the region, as the Bharatiya Janata Party-ruled state gears up for upcoming assembly polls later this year, the statement said. The visit follows his earlier interactions in July, where Modi interacted with diverse groups, showcasing his engagement with the grassroots communities. Amidst the anticipation surrounding the temple inauguration, Modi's activities are poised to make an impact in the lead-up to the state's impending elections.


Maharashtra: Pune's Chandni Chowk Flyover Set to Open On August 12: 


After years of anticipation and delays, the multi-level flyover at Chandni Chowk, a crucial juncture connecting various parts of Pune, is finally set to be inaugurated on Saturday, Indian Express reported.


This infrastructural milestone, aimed at alleviating persistent traffic congestion in the area, comes five years after the laying of its foundation stone, the report said. The ambitious project, undertaken by the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) at an estimated cost of Rs 1,000 crore, has received contributions from both the state government and the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC).


The momentous opening will be officiated by Union Highway Minister Nitin Gadkari, accompanied by the presence of Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy Chief Ministers Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar, it said. The Chandni Chowk flyover, a critical link between key areas including Bavdhan, NDA, Pashan, Mulshi Road, and the Mumbai-Bengaluru bypass, is poised to transform connectivity in the region and promises a reprieve from longstanding traffic woes.


Pakistan Likely To Nominate Caretaker Premier Today: 


Pakistan's President Arif Alvi asked outgoing Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and outgoing Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Raja Riaz on Friday to propose a name for a caretaker premier by Saturday, news agency PTI reported. 


The move comes following the recent dissolution of the National Assembly on August 9, prompting the initiation of discussions to identify a neutral figure to lead the nation during the pre-election period, the report said. With six potential candidates reportedly considered during a meeting on Thursday, Shehbaz Sharif and Raja Riaz are expected to engage in further deliberations on Friday.


The president, in a written letter to Sharif and Riaz, highlighted the dissolution of the National Assembly on the prime minister's advice, marking a crucial step in the election process, the report said.
