Former petroleum secretary Tarun Kapoor has been appointed as an advisor to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Personnel Ministry said in an order issued on Monday.
Kapoor, a 1987-batch IAS officer of the Himachal Pradesh cadre, superannuated as the secretary of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas on November 30, 2021.
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved appointment of Kapoor, as advisor to the Prime Minister, in the Prime Minister's Office (PMO), in the rank and scale of Secretary to Government of India, initially for a period of two years from the date of joining," it said.

SC directs the Union of India to make public data on adverse events of COVID-19 vaccination, new agency PTI reported.
"Supreme Court says no individual can be forced to get vaccinated. The Court also says that it's satisfied that the current vaccine policy can't be said to be unreasonable & manifestly arbitrary. SC says that govt can form policy and impose some conditions for the larger public good," new agency ANI reported.
Supreme Court said that condition imposed by some state government, organisations restricting access of unvaccinated people to public places is not proportional and should be recalled in the present prevailing conditions.

"My visit to Europe comes at a time when the region faces many challenges and choices," PM Modi said.
"Through my engagements, I intend to strengthen the spirit of cooperation with our European partners, who are important companions in India's quest for peace and prosperity," the Prime Minister said in his departure statement.

PM Modi To Visit Germany On Monday
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will go to Germany, Denmark, and France for three days beginning May 2 as part of his first trip overseas this year, amidst the Ukraine conflict and Europe's tough stance on dealing with it.
The prime minister will conduct bilateral meetings with German Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz in Berlin, and the two leaders will co-chair the sixth edition of the India-Germany Inter-Governmental Consultations (IGC), according to the MEA.
Ahead of PM's visit to Berlin, the Indian Ambassador to Germany Harish Parvathaneni said, "PM's visit to Berlin on 2-3 May for India-Germany Inter-Governmental Consultations is a landmark visit. This year we not only celebrate Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav but also commemorate 70 years of the establishment of diplomatic relations b/w India-Germany," news agency ANI reported.
Mumbai Court To Decide Rana Couple's Fate
Mumbai Session Court will pronounce its verdict on Monday, on a bail plea filed by Amravati MP Navneet Rana and her husband Ravi Rana.
The Mumbai Police detained them last Saturday after they called for a recitation of the Hanuman Chalisa outside 'Matoshree,' the private mansion of Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray.
Navneet and her husband have been charged with sedition and 'creating animosity amongst various communities.' They were first accused of 'promoting hostility,' but the police eventually added a charge of sedition.
