Gujarat Municipal Elections HIGHLIGHTS: Victory Celebration On As BJP Sweeps Rajkot, Jamnagar, Bhavnagar
Welcome to the ABP News HIGHLIGHTS for February 23, 2021: Counting of votes for the polls in six municipal corporations of Gujarat, including Ahmedabad, Rajkot, Surat, Vadodara, Bhavnagar and Jamnagar began at 9 AM on Tuesday morning amid high security. Voting for the 576 seats in 144 wards across six Gujarat civic bodies was held between 7 am and 6 pm on Sunday.
Polling for the 576 seats in 144 wards across six civic bodies - Ahmedabad, Surat, Rajkot, Vadodara, Bhavnagar and Jamnagar - was held on Sunday. The BJP ruled all these civic bodies for last several terms.
After three hours of counting, the SEC said the BJP has till now emerged victorious in 40 seats, including five in Ahmedabad, eight in Rajkot, four in Surat, nine in Vadodara, and seven each in Jamnagar and Bhavnagar.

While the final results for all the seats across 6 corporations are yet to be anounced, the trends so far suggest the Bharatiya Janata Party nearing the majority mark. So far, the saffron party has won 24 seats out of 72 in Rajkot, 32 out of 64 in Jamnagar and 15 out of 52 seats in Bhavanagar.
Meanwhile, Gujarat BJP has announced a public function to celebrate its victory in the state civic body polls. The function to be held at its Ahmedabad party office in the evening will see Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, Deputy CM Nitin Patel and Gujarat BJP party chief C R Patil as guests.

According to a News18 report, BJP won 92 of the 575 seats across the 6 corporation which went for elections on SUnday. As per the latest trends, the saffron party continues to maintain a massive lead whle Congress has won only 18. The Bharatiya Janata Party continues to take lead in Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation. The early trends show that the saffron party is ahead og congress in as many as 51 seats.
According to early trends, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has taken a massive lead in all six Gujarat civic body polls. The Saffron party is currently leading in 11 wards in Vadodara. The party is ahead of Congress and AAP in Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation.

The counting of votes for the elections held in six Gujarat civic bodies is underway. While the results are expected to be announced later today, all eye are set on the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party in these six civic bodies. The elctions are being seen as a test for Chief Minister Vijay Rupani as it may set the tone for the state Assembly elections due next year. Besides BJP, Arvind Kejriwal led Aam Aadmi Party contested the elections in all six cities for the first time.

The State Election Commission in a released stated that 52 election officers, 58 assistant election officers, over 4,800 security personnel and 227 health personnel have been deployed at the counting entres to ensure smooth counting of votes.

In a released issued by the SEC, the poll body stated that Ahmedabad recorded the lowest turnout of 42.51 percent. Jamnagar saw the highest turnout of 53.38 percent, followed by 50.72 percent in Rajkot, 49.46 percent in Bhavnagar, 47.84 percent in Vadodara and 47.14 percent in Surat.
