The body of a 21-year-old youth, son of a Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) employee, was recovered on Monday from the gallery of Eden Gardens in West Bengal's Kolkata. City police sources told news agency IANS that as per the initial findings, the victim was probably going through some acute mental stress that ultimately made him take such an extreme step. The deceased was identified as Dhananjay Barik. Barik's father and uncle had been associated with the Eden Gardens as groundsmen. A probe has been launched in the matter.


The Kolkata Police has said a missing complaint was registered in the Maidan police state on December 17.


A city police official said that the investigating officials have launched a probe to ascertain whether this was a case of suicide or there was some kind of foul play behind this incident, reported IANS.


The victim, a resident of Odisha, came to Kolkata in hopes of getting a groundsman job at Eden Garden like his father and uncle. He started to reside at the quarter which was provided to his father and uncle, as IANS reported.

The family members of the deceased while talking to the the police said he was battling acute frustration as uncertainties prevailed over him over getting his desired job. They added that he had been missing since Sunday afternoon. According to an IANS report, the family members filed a missing complaint on late Sunday evening at the local Maidan Police Station.

An employee of Eden Gardens noticed the body of Barik hanging from the upper tier of Block-K of the stadium gallery on Monday morning. Soon after the Maidan Police Station was informed about the body. The body was then sent for post-mortem.
