Hitting back at former Congress chief Rahul Gandhi for his 'backbencher' taunt, the Bharatiya Janata Party MP Jyotiraditya Scindia on Tuesday retaliated by questioning Gandhi’s concerns.

"It would have been a different situation had Rahul Gandhi been concerned the same way as he is now, when I was in the Congress," Jyotiraditya Scindia said, as quoted by news agency ANI.

This comes after Rahul Gandhi on Monday launched fresh attacks at his old colleague saying that if he were in the Congress, he would have become the Chief Minister. Through 'Scindia', he explained the importance of the Congress organisation to the Youth Congress workers.

The Congress leader said that Scindia had an option to strengthen the grand old party by working with Congressmen. "I told him that you should work hard, one day you will become the Chief Minister. But he chose another route."

Taking a dig at his one-time close aide, Rahul in a sarcastic manner said that Scindia is a backbencher in BJP. "Write it down, he will never become Chief Minister there. He will have to come back here for that," Congress leader added.

Scindia, along with twenty-two Congress MLAs last year resigned from the Congress membership reducing the Kamal Nath-led dispensation to a minority. He made a big switch joining the Bharatiya Janata Party later.
