New Delhi: Two-wheeler major Bajaj on Tuesday launched its electric scooter Chetak at a starting price of ₹1,00,000 (ex-showroom and inclusive of government subsidies). The iconic scooter brand Chetak, now in an electric avatar, will be rolled out in a phased manner, with sales beginning from Bangalore and Pune.

Reports say the bookings for the electric Chetak will begin from 15 January, and the electric scooter will go on sale with six variants across two model lines - urban and premium

The company also plans to export the model to various relevant markets in Europe from next year itself.

The e-scooter was unveiled by Transport minister Nitin Gadkari last year in presence of Niti Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant and Bajaj Auto Managing Director Rajiv Bajaj. “The future of automotive industry lies in eco-friendly technologies such as electric vehicles and biofuels,”Gadkari had said.

The scooter comes with range of 85 km on sports mode and 95 km on eco mode on a single charge of around 5 hours.

BATTERY WARRANTY

With a 3 years, 50,000 kms warranty on the Chetak Lithium Ion Batteries, the complany claims that the riding is set to keep on going and going.

WATER-RESISTANT

The Chetak is an IP67-rated Vehicle. This means you are assured of the highest levels of durability, acocrding to Bajaj.

REVERSE GEAR

Getting out of the tight parking spots will become a lot easier with the reverse gear. Chetak has a reverse mode which lets you ride back out of a parking with a breeze.
