India is lacking behind in electric vehicles' race as compared to other countries. One of the prime reasons behind the same has been the cost and the fact that there is no EV on sale currently below Rs 10 lakh mark in India. However, the interest level of Indians is rising slowly and steadily. At the ongoing 'Auto Expo 2020', world's cheapest electric vehicle has made its debut as part of the Great Wall Motor's stand. The Ora R1 is part of an EV brand owned by GWM and is priced at around the top-end Swift mark which makes it most affordable.

Ora R1 looks cute with a simple grille but the round headlamps and interesting colour personalisations makes it a head-turner.

It is more like a Wagon R or S-Presso sized micro car. However, the build quality is premium as we have observed. The interiors of Ora R1 are quite premium yet simply designed.

The fact that it has been built to be an EV makes this well packaged. It has a 9-inch touchscreen, rear camera plus sensors, 4 speaker audio plus more. The main talking point is the 33kWh battery along with the 46 bhp motor.

However, we also liked its 300km plus range which is good as compared to the EVs on sale here. The top speed is limited to 102 km/h. There are usual charging options also with a fast charging option which juices up the car upto 80 percent. Plus there are the usual EV features like brake regen too.

In China, it is sold in an unique way with no dealers just like the EV concept. This car is also made/sold in a different way and can change the EV scenario if GWM launches it in India.
