Hyderabad: A police constable died by suicide in Andhra Pradesh's Prakasam district on Monday. The incident occurred at the Armed Reserve (AR) police quarters at Etcherla in the Srikakulam district. According to officials, constable Subbarao, 50, went to a nearby building after attending the daily roll call on Monday morning and was found hanging inside a room.

Police said Subbarao was addicted to alcohol and was constantly at loggerheads with his family over the issue. On Sunday, Maridamma festival was celebrated in the village and Subbarao had a heated argument with his family members over excessive drinking.

Subbarao was upset over the incident and committed suicide, according to officials. The deceased had a son and a daughter. His son Rajarao serves as Special Task Force (STF) constable in the AR office.

This is the second suicide by a police personnel in three days in Andhra Pradesh. A 36-year-old sub-inspector Muthavarapu Gopal Krishna allegedly died by shooting himself at his residence in Sarpavaram in Andhra's Kakinada district on May 13.
