Andhra Marks Farmers’ Day On Birth Anniversary Of Former CM YSR Reddy
The state now led by late YSR’s son Jagan Mohan Reddy had issued an order last year to celebrate July 8 as the Farmer’s Day across the state.
Former chief minister of Andhra Pradesh YS Rajasekhara Reddy’s birth anniversary on July 8 is being celebrated in the state as Rythu Dinotsavam (Farmers’ Day). Rajasekhara Reddy was the 14th chief minister who served the state between 2004 and 2009.

The state now led by late YSR’s son Jagan Mohan Reddy had issued an order last year to celebrate July 8 as the Farmer’s Day across the state.
YSR remains one of the most successful chief ministers, who on the first day of his term in 2004, offered free electricity to farmers in a campaign project. The renowned leader was a four-time Member of Parliament and a five-time MLA from the Pulivendula constituency.
In 2019, the current chief minister organised several state-level farmers’ conference at Jammalamadugu of Kadapa district in on YSR Jayanthi. Several welfare schemes for farmers have been launched to help distressed farmers. Jagan Mohan Reddy distributed insurance certificates to farmers besides launching a free crop insurance scheme. He also laid the foundation for the banana research centre in Pulivendula and launched the YSR Pension Scheme on the occasion of his father’s birth anniversary last year.
Among the recent schemes, the YSR Zero Interest Loan Scheme was launched in which Rs 1,400 crore was credited to the bank accounts of 8.78 lakh Self Help Groups.
However, celebrations this year will remain muted due to Covid-19 outbreak.
