Hyderabad: Thousands of supporters bid a tearful goodbye to Andhra Pradesh Minister Mekapati Goutham Reddy, whose last rites were performed with full state honours in his hometown at Udayagiri in the Nellore district on Wednesday.
The former Minister's last rituals were held at Mekapati Rajamohan Reddy Engineering College in Udayagiri. Krishna Arjun Reddy, Goutham Reddy's son, performed the final rites after returning from the United States on Tuesday night.
Goutham's funeral procession started from his residence in Nellore and reached Udayagiri via Jonnawada, Buchi, Sangam, Nellorepalem, Marripadu, Brahmanapalli and Nandipadu.
Thousands of his relatives, fans and party workers followed the procession on the way, they showered flowers and raised slogans -- 'Goutham Reddy amar rahe' (long live Goutham Reddy) -- to pay their respects to the late leader.
Mekapati Rajamohan Reddy, the deceased leader's father and former MP, along with his mother, wife, daughter, and other family members, were inconsolable.

Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, cabinet colleagues, MPs, MLAs, other YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) leaders, relatives, friends, and supporters have attended the funeral.
Goutham, the Minister for Industries, Commerce, and Information Technology, died after suffering a massive heart attack on Monday morning at his residence in Hyderabad. He is 50 years old.
On Tuesday, the former Minister's body was brought to Nellore, where the people could pay their last respects.
Goutham, who arrived in India from Dubai after a week-long official visit, was admitted to the Apollo Hospital in Hyderabad after showing the symptoms of chest uneasiness. On Monday morning, doctors confirmed that the minister suffered a heart attack.
