The row started after some of the students started to stage protests alleging caste-based discrimination by Shankar Mohan, the Director of K. R. Narayanan. Amid the protest, Adoor Gopalakrishnan came out in support of Mohan. However, Shankar resigned 10 days ago.
Against this backdrop, Adoor on Tuesday submitted his resignation after having a conversation with Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. Adoor also released a statement in which he accused the enquiry commission of the government. He said that the enquiry commission did not contact him or Mohan before submitting the report.
"I don't think that any sort of caste discrimination ever took place. A probe should be undertaken to find out who was behind the protests. Mohan did everything that he could do towards the institute and it is unfortunate that he had to make such an exit," said Adoor, as per IANS.
The director also said that he decided to put down his paper since he felt that Mohan was unnecessarily pushed out.
After the resignation of the director, eight others have also tendered their resignation in solidarity with him.
