Flouting the guidelines, metropolitan police officers in London hired a barber to come to the Bethnal Green police station to cut their hair inside a police station amid the coronavirus-induced lockdown on 17 January.

After receiving a tip-off in the matter, the police department slapped a fine of £200 (Rs 20,000) on the officers for breaching coronavirus regulations.

Expressing disappointment over the incident, local policing commander Detective Chief Superintendent Marcus Barnett said "It is deeply disappointing and frustrating that my officers have fallen short of the expectation to uphold Covid-19 regulations."

"Although officers donated money to charity as part of the haircut, this does not excuse them from what was a very poor decision. I expect a lot more of them," Marcus Barnett said, as quoted by CNN.

According to reports, the two officers who were involved in organising the activity are under investigation for misconduct. Meanwhile, the Metropolitan Police officers have all been given the penalty notices.
