Ford India has released all details except for the prices of the new 2019 Figo facelift, which will be launched on March 15. There are a number of changes on the surface, under the hood a well as in the features list too. So, we decided to see how the new Figo fares against the best in the segment.

The Ford hatch is the longest one here and it has the longest wheelbase too. In the case of width and height, it’s the Swift that has the biggest numbers. Clearly, the Hyundai Grand i10 is the smallest car here.
Engines:
All three of these hatchbacks are offered with a choice of both petrol and diesel engines. While the Swift and Grand i10 get a single petrol engine each, the Figo gets two - one with a manual transmission and the other with an automatic.
Speaking of transmissions, all the competitors in this list offer both petrol-manual and petrol-automatic variants but only the Swift gets a diesel-AT option.

Most fuel efficient: Maruti Suzuki Swift
Even though the three different cars here are powered by engines of similar capacity, the Figo’s 1.2-litre unit is the most powerful of the lot. It’s the torquiest too. The Swift and Grand i10, meanwhile, have identical power and torque figures. All 1.2-litre engines featured here come mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard.
In terms of convenience, the Maruti hatch gets an AMT while the Hyundai gets a torque convertor. The Figo petrol-automatic also gets a torque-convertor but only with the bigger, even more powerful 1.5-litre engine.
This segment is sensitive to fuel economy too, which is where the Swift leads the pack - in both manual and automatic guise. The Figo fares better than the Grand i10 in manual guise, but loses out when it comes to the automatic.

Torquiest: Ford FigoMost Powerful: Ford Figo
Most fuel efficient: Maruti Suzuki Swift
The Figo is the most powerful diesel option in this list. That’s partly due to the fact that it has the biggest engine of the three. Meanwhile, the Swift and Grand i10 stand equal yet again in terms of performance. But it’s the Maruti that still tops the score as the most frugal of the lot, followed by the Ford and the Hyundai respectively. Transmission options are limited here as the Figo and Grand i10 can only be had with 5-speed manual ‘boxes. The Swift comes with a 5-speed AMT.
Features:
Safety: Dual front airbags and ABS with EBD are being offered as standard in all three cars. The Figo and the Swift also get rear parking sensors as standard. In the Grand i10, this feature is limited to the higher variants. The Figo is the only car here to offer side and curtain airbags (only in the top-spec Titanium Blu). The Swift, on the other hand, is the only one to offer ISOFIX child seat anchors (standard).
Infotainment: All three hatchbacks get a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system in their higher variants. However, only the Swift and the Grand i10 get Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. The Figo gets navigation and Bluetooth functionality.
Comfort and Convenience: All the cars here can be had with features such as electrically adjustable and foldable ORVMs, push button start, power steering, all four power windows, auto climate control, adjustable front and rear headrest and manual day/night IRVM. The Swift and the Figo also come with auto headlamps but rain-sensing wipers are limited to the Ford. The Maruti hatchback gets LED projector headlamps, which is a segment-first feature.
Verdict: The 2019 Ford Figo facelift really seems to be a winning package on paper thanks to its powerful engines and packed features list. However, its success will depend on its pricing, which will be announced on March 15.
