Jaipur: A policeman was arrested here for allegedly accepting bribe from a rape accused on promise of dropping charges against him. Reports say Dharm Singh, attached at a police station for women in Rajasthan's Dausa district, had demanded Rs 50,000 from the rape accused and assured to exculpate him from the charges under section 376 of the Indian Penal Code.

After rounds of negotiations, Singh agreed for Rs 40,000 and was trapped while taking Rs 20,000, an anti-corruption bureau official said.

"After verification of the complaint, a trap was laid and Singh was caught while he was taking the money, the official said, adding that he was arrested under the Prevention of Corruption Act.

17-year-old Dalit girl gang-raped in UP’s Muzaffarnagar

In another incident of crime against women, a 17-year-old girl belonging to the Schedule Caste community was allegedly raped by five youths in Uttar Pradesh's Muzaffarnagar district, police said Monday. The accused also recorded a video of their act, they said.

The incident took place in Muzaffarnagar's Phulat village under Ratenpuri police station on Sunday, they added.

According to a complaint lodged by the girl's brother, she had gone to the fields to collect fodder for cattle when the accused raped her.

The five accused also threatened to make the video public if the girl reported the matter to anyone, the complaint said.

A case has been registered and three accused have been arrested. Efforts are on to nab the remaining two, Station House Officer Kamal Singh Chouhan said.
