Mahindra KUV100 Diesel To Be Discontinued In BS6 Era

As the date for BS6 emission norms to come into effect draws closer, Mahindra has announced that it will not be updating its diesel engines with a capacity smaller than 1.5-litres. As a result, the diesel variant of the KUV100 NXT micro-SUV, which is powered by a 1.2-litre unit, will be discontinued. The KUV100 gets the mFalcon D75 1.2-litre diesel engine that makes 78PS of power and 190Nm of torque while mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. Currently in BS4 tune, the diesel KUV100 is priced between Rs 5.85 lakh to Rs 7.94 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The cost of updating this small diesel engine to meet BS6 emission norms would be too expensive and in turn make the price of the final product go up significantly. As a result, Mahindra will only be offering the KUV100 with a petrol engine from April 2020. The KUV100’s petrol variants are powered by the G80 MPFI (multi point fuel injection) engine. This BS4-compliant 1.2-litre unit is also mated to a 5-speed manual and makes 83PS and 115Nm. While Mahindra will be offering BS6 petrol engines it may not be an updated version of the same engine. According to Mahindra MD Pawan Goenka, naturally-aspirated petrol engines have no place in the BS6 era, so the 1.2-litre turbo-petrol from the larger XUV300 could likely be introduced in the KUV100 by 2020. It may also get an AMT option as well, which is currently absent on this micro SUV. On the XUV300, the 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine is paired to a 6-speed manual and produces 110PS and 200Nm. The Mahindra KUV100 NXT petrol variants are priced between Rs 4.83 lakh to Rs 6.26 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). So expect prices of the BS6 turbo-petrol engine models to go up by nearly Rs 30,000.
