World Nature Conservation Day 2022: July 28 is celebrated as World Nature Conservation Day. The World Nature Conservation Day is observed to increase the awareness of the importance of preserving nature and natural resources in order to protect the planet from the dangers of adverse effects of climate change.

This day recognises the fact that a stable and healthy society is built on a healthy environment. Mahatma Gandhi once said, “What we are doing to the forests of the world is but a mirror reflection of what we are doing to ourselves”

History, Origin Of World Nature Conservation Day:

Natural vegetation and other resources have suffered a lot as a result of human activities, and the rapid growth of industrialisation over the past century. This relentless exploitation of natural resources has led to unusual weather patterns, destruction of wildlife habitats, extinction of species, global warming, and loss of biodiversity.

All of this led to the birth of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) on 5th October 1948. IUCN examined how human activities affected nature and also promoted the use of environmental impact assessments.

In the 1960s and 1970s, IUCN directed most of its work toward the protection of species and their habitats.

In 1964, the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species was founded, which is currently the world’s most comprehensive data source on the risk of global extinction of species.

In the 2000s, the IUCN introduced ‘nature-based solutions.’ These are actions that conserve nature while also addressing global challenges such as climate change, security of food and water, and poverty alleviation.

Significance Of World Nature Conservation Day

The main goal of World Nature Conservation Day is to protect species of plants and animals that are close to extinction in the Earth's natural habitat.

This day also acknowledges the fact that a stable and productive society depends on a healthy environment, and that for the sake of current and future generations, we must all work to protect, conserve, and sustainably manage our natural resources.

By preserving various natural elements such as water, air, soil, energy, vegetation, minerals, and fauna, we can keep the balance of the earth's natural beauty.

The scope of environmental issues today ranges from the local to the global. Its severity is getting worse due to the changing lifestyles and constantly growing population. The time has come to make deliberate efforts to preserve the environment.

World Nature Conservation Day 2022

The theme of World Nature Conservation Day 2022 is "Forests and Livelihoods: Sustaining People and Planet".

This primarily concerns how humans can sustainably use nature for mining, and hunting, meet other human requirements, and at the same time conserve it for future generations.

There is no alternative plan or planet to protect the human race from the dangerous effects of climatic disasters. So, citizens, societies, and governments must work together to protect it.
