If you are planning to travel in the festive season then you need to be more vigilant about flight schedules and cancellations due to rush and various other issues. According to PTI, flight operations at Mumbai airport will remain suspended for six hours on October 18 for runway maintenance work, which may impact flight operations, said airport officials on Thursday.


The airport operator, Adani Group, said it has "planned a runway closure on October 18 from 11 am to 5 pm, for repair and maintenance work on both its runways". The measure is part of its annual post-monsoon preventive maintenance exercise.

Mumbai airport remains the second busiest airport with two intersecting runways with main runway 9/27 and secondary runway 14/32 that handles around 800 flights per day. The airport of the financial city is the busiest after Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport.


The period of closure will be used by the facility operator to carry out major work such as runway edge lights for runway 14/32, upgradation of AGL (aeronautical ground lights ), among others, it stated.


Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) said with the cooperation of key stakeholders, it has already rescheduled flights for the runway closure period to ensure smooth completion of the maintenance work.


Meanwhile, Indian Railways decided to cancel 263 trains on Friday, September 23 due to maintenance and operational reasons, according to the website of Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation Ltd. It has also decided to change sourced station in 38 trains and short terminate 56 on Friday.


In view of doubling work between Sindhavadar-Kankot-Khorana-Bileshwar in Rajkot – Surendranagar section of Rajkot division, and non-interlocking work for 4th line connectivity at Ib station of Raigarh-Jharsuguda section of Bilaspur Division, few Western Railway trains will also remain cancelled, the Western Railway informed in a tweet on Friday.
