Happy Durga Puja 2022 Wishes: It's Mahasaptami today, and Durga Puja celebrations have begun in full swing across the country. The festival celebrates the victory of good over evil as it ends with Goddess Durga slaying demon king Mahishasura.
What Happens On Saptami?
According to tradition, the day begins early, around dawn, when a banana tree in bathed in sacred water. It is then dressed in the traditional white saree with red borders. The 'kola bou' is then and worshipped and placed next to Lord Ganesha, indicating she is his newly wedded wife.
Tied together with the banana tree are leaves of eight other plants or trees. Together, they are called Nabapatrika. These nine plants symbolically represent the nine forms of Shakti — Kalika (colacassia), Durga (turmeric), Brahmani (banana), Kartiki (jayanti), Raktadantika (pomegranate), Shiva (wood apple), Sokrahita (ashoka), Lakshmi (paddy) and Chamunda (arum). The Nabapatrika is taken for a bath in a water body, and the ritual is called 'Nabapatrika snan'.
