New Delhi: A new picture of 76-year-old monarch King Charles III was just released, and it shows him with the next two heirs to the throne. The King can be seen sitting on his throne with his two heirs, the Prince of Wales, who is 40, and Prince George, who is nine. Hugo Burnand took the picture in the Throne Room at Buckingham Palace on May 6, right after the coronation.
King Charles’ photograph is full of royalty including the Robe of Estate, Imperial State Crown, and Sovereign's Orb and Sovereign's Sceptre with Cross.
The royal chair the king is sitting on was one of a pair created in 1902 for the future King George V and Queen Mary, who used them for King Edward VII's coronation.
The new photos were taken by Hugo Burnand, who previously photographed Charles and Camilla's wedding in 2005.
People magazine quoted Hugo saying, "I did a lot of research in the archives of past coronations, and I didn't see any previous pictures of the line of succession. While we have seen pictures of the Queen, Prince Charles and Prince William and Prince George, never have we seen them in the throne room with all the regalia."
He also added, "There's a lot of formality in that picture. But I think that I've managed to show the essence of the individuals at the same time, which to me makes it not just a historical document, but also a portrait."
After a weekend of celebrations, on Tuesday the King sent a written letter thanking the people for its support, calling it "the greatest possible coronation gift." He concluded by stating, "We thank you, each and every one."
