The news of Cavalli's death was accompanied by heartfelt condolences from his colleagues and loved ones. Fausto Puglisi, the creative director at Roberto Cavalli since October 2020, expressed, "Dear Roberto, you may not be physically here with us anymore, but I know I will feel your spirit with me always." Puglisi also emphasised Cavalli's enduring influence and inspiration in the fashion world.
Cavalli's journey to fashion stardom began in the early 1970s, when he gained fame for his animal prints and daring style. He introduced innovative techniques such as printing on leather and creating patchworks of different materials, earning commissions from prestigious fashion houses like Hermès and Pierre Cardin.
At the age of 32, Cavalli unveiled his first namesake collection in Paris, showcasing a blend of denim, intarsia leather, brocade, and wild-animal prints. His creations captivated audiences, leading to the opening of his first boutique in Saint-Tropez in 1972.
