International Men's Day 2020: Why Do We Mark This Day, 2020 Theme & All You Need To Know
Every year on 19th November, the world marks this day dedicated to one half of the humanity: a time to promote positive aspects of male identity.
International Men's Day: Men and women are the two wheels of the same chariot and only with their equal pace and progress can the balance be maintained. International Men’s Day, is thus a day as crucial as women’s day, in a world which is striving for gender equality each day. Every year on 19th November, the world marks this day dedicated to one half of the humanity.

Why is international men’s day celebrated?
International Men’s Day is celebrated to raise awareness about health of men, improving gender relations and promoting gender equality, in 80 countries and it is also supported by UNESCO.
It is an occasion to recognise the achievements and contributions of men, in particular for nation, society, community, family, marriage, and childcare. The broader and ultimate aim of the event is to promote basic humanitarian values
It is a time to promote positive aspects of male identity based on the premise that 'males of all ages respond more energetically to positive role models than they do to negative gender stereotyping
It was first organised by 1999 by Dr Jerome Teelucksingh, a history lecturer at University of the West Indies, in Trinidad Tabago.
When was it started?
It was started in the year 1992 on 7 February by Thomas Oaster , after the International Men’s Day project that was conceived a year ago on 8 February 1991. Later in the year 1999, it was resumed by Dr. Jerome Teelucksingh.
The Six Pillars of International Men's Day'
The following are the broad objectives for the International Men’s Day. These were set out in the year 2009 .
- To promote positive male role models and not just movie stars and sportsmen but everyday, working-class men who are living decent, honest lives
- To celebrate men's positive contributions to society, community, family, marriage, child care, and to the environment
- To focus on men's health and wellbeing
- To lay emphasis on discrimination against men in areas of social services, social attitudes and expectations, and law
- To improve gender relations
- To create a safer, better world
