Guru Purnima 2022: Guru Purnima is celebrated on the full moon day during the Hindu month Ashadha. Even as every full moon day has significance in Hinduism, the full moon of the month of Ashadha is very special. This year, Guru Purnima will be celebrated on Wednesday. The day is dedicated to Krishna Dvaipayana Veda Vyasa or more commonly known as Vyasa, a revered sage who is also the author of Mahabharata.


Veda Vyas is also popularly known as Maharishi Vyas. Considered as the ancient Guru, the day is also obsreved as Vyas Purnima. According to Buddhism, Gautam Budha also delivered his first teachings to his first five disciples and after that he migrated from Bodh Gaya to Sarnath.


On this day, the Gurus or teachers are worshipped as they guide people to right path through knowledge. Bathing in the holy river and donating are considered as important rituals on this day. As per Hinduism, the place of Guru in life is considered to be supreme. Without Guru, attainment of knowledge is not possible. Darkness is dispelled only by knowledge.

Guru Purnima Tithi starts from around 4 am and continues till 12.06 pm next day. Indra Yoga will remain till 12.45 pm on July 13. Bhadra yoga is from 05:32 am to 2:04 pm. Apart from this, Rahu Kaal is from 12.27 pm to 2:10 pm on the day.


According to the Panchang, on this day three major planets will be sitting in the same zodiac. It is believed that Sun, Venus and Mercury will be sitting in Gemini.
