A senior Civil Police Officer (CPO) allegedly killed himself at Kozhikode in north Kerala district on Tuesday. The cop has also left behind a suicide note alleging mental torture by some of his superior officers. This is the second time in October that a Kerala police officer has taken the extreme decision.
According to PTI, relatives of the CPO and locals in the Kozhikode area claimed that the officer's tragic decision on Monday was a result of work-related stress imposed by his superiors.
Police confirmed that the officer was found hanging in the basement of an electronics store, located a mere 200 meters from the Kuttiyadi police station where he had been stationed.
The senior CPO went missing from the station at around 11.30 AM. The locals later found his body was found around 4 pm.
The police have registered a case of unnatural death and started the investigation, the cops said.
On October 16, a civil police officer was found dead at the station premises at Thrissur West station. Geetu Krishnan of Kollam who was on night duty on Saturday was found dead at the restroom of the police station.
The initial investigation revealed that the cop had severe financial issues and he was under stress for a long time, reported India Today.
Meanwhile, local Congress workers gathered at the place and staged a protest against the delay in moving the body from the location. The Congress workers claimed Sudheesh was under severe stress and demanded a thorough probe.
Sudheesh leaves behind his wife and two children.
His brother is a police officer working at Valayam Station, said a report on Manorama.
On October 4, a Kerala police driver died by suicide at his home in Muvattupuzha, Ernakulam district.
