Chennai: Former Chief Minister of Karnataka BS Yediyurappa announced his youngest son BY Vijayendra as the candidate of BJP in Shivamogga's Shikaripura constituency in the next Assembly elections. He also announced that he will not contest in the next elections. 


According to a tweet on ANI, BS Yediyurappa said, "I am giving up my Assembly constituency for my son BY Vijayendra. I request the voters of Shikaripura to make sure that he wins with a huge margin."


Further, he said, "I will not contest the next election."





He also said that many people from Mysuru wanted Vijayendra to contest from their region but he wanted his son to contest from Shikaripura since it has been vacated by him.

BS Yediyurappa has contested from Shikaripura constituency for the past nine times since 1983. He also won the Assembly seats all the time except for once in 1999. 


However, the announcement of Yediyurappa has come at a notable time just few days before Basavaraj's one year anniversary as the Karnataka CM since the time he took over from Yediyurappa.

However, Yediyurappa's next course of action is unknown. 

Meanwhile, the next Assembly election in Karnataka is scheduled for May 2023.
