Auto Driver In B'luru Smashes Bike Taxi Rider's Helmet & Threatens Him, Police Launch Probe

A viral video showed an auto driver smashing the helmet of a bike taxi rider and threatening him alleging that "he has come from other country" and was participating in "illegal business".

New Delhi: The Bengaluru police have registered a case over a viral video where an autorickshaw driver was seen smashing the helmet of a bike taxi rider, abusing him, and threatening him. The video was flagged on social media and received a lot of criticism. 

The bike taxi driver is said to be from the northeast and works with the aggregator Rapido. In the video, the auto driver was heard saying that Rapido was doing illegal business. He claimed that the bike taxi driver came from another country and was taking away business from other auto drivers. He said this was a threat to the auto industry.

"Friends, take a look at how the illegal Rapido business is happening. This fellow has come from other country and drives around like a king... This is a threat to the auto industry," NDTV quoted the autorickshaw driver as saying in a report.

ABP Live could not verify the contents of the video and claims pertaining to it.

According to the report, the incident is said to have taken place on Monday near the Indira Nagar metro station in Bengaluru.

The video was shot by a witness, who later the incident on Twitter, tagging the police and requesting action.

The Bengaluru police took cognisance of the tweet and ensured that strict action would be taken.

"Police in Indiranagar are investigating the incident. Strict and necessary action will be taken," Bengaluru City Police responded in a tweet.

Meanwhile, other social media users responded to the tweet condemning the incident and a section of them also questioned the police.

"I also have an auto's number - Ka03AJ6248. He was so rude to the Rapido driver and even took away his helmet. Is this was illegal then the government would have banned it but they haven't," a user wrote.

"All the ppl who are commenting against the Auto driver, pls note that Rapido case is still in court. You cannot use a white board vehicle for a taxi purpose. Because, the driver isn't paying any additional tax,RTO license is not obtained, no insurance which is a risk to passenger," another user commented.

Meanwhile, more details are awaited about the incident.
