A Bengaluru court on Saturday granted bail to Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and his deputy DK Shivakumar in connection with a defamation case filed by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The case revolves around allegations by the BJP that the Congress leaders disseminated false advertisements targeting BJP leaders, including the then Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai.
On Saturday, Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar appeared in person before the 42nd Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate. Following the presentation of their plea, the court decided to grant bail to both leaders.
After appearing before the court in a defamation case filed by BJP, Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah said, "I appeared before the judge as legal guardian. I have got bail. A private complaint was filed against me, KPCC president DK Shivakumar and Rahul Gandhi too. Rahul Gandhi will also appear in the court."
On Valmiki Corporation case, he said, "There is no question of protecting anyone. Legal action will be taken against whoever is found guilty in the investigation. SIT has been formed and the investigation is going on at a fast pace.
