Chennai: iD Fresh Food, a Bengaluru-based company known for its idli and dosa batter, had to come out with a clarification about its product ingredients after a widely circulated message on social media alleged that the company uses "cow bones and calf rennet" in its product.
The company has quashed all the rumours being spread via social media and called the accusations "misleading, false and baseless". In a press note on Monday, the company said it uses "only vegetarian products" to make the batter.
In a viral social media post that was removed after some time, a Twitter user said, "Do you know they (iD) mix Cow Bones and Calf Rennet to make the volume of the batter. How many really know that this company employees only Muslims and it is Halal certified?"

iD Fresh responded to the accusations being made and circulated on social media by issuing a statement.
iD Fresh Foods said, "Some consumers have received a WhatsApp forward message carrying misleading, false, and baseless information about iD using animal extracts in its products."
"We would like to clearly specify that iD uses only vegetarian ingredients to make its products. iD Idly and Dosa Batter is made from rice, urad dal, fenugreek, and RO water only, which are 100% natural and vegetarian agri-commodities. There are no animal extracts used in any of our products," the company said.
iD Fresh started operations in 2005 and recently launched the largest batter preparation and packaging plant in Karnataka at an investment of Rs 40 crore. The company also has APEDA and FSSAI certifications.
