Three-Storeyed Building In Bengaluru Comes Crashing Down, No Casualties Reported - Watch Video

People who were residing in the building were construction workers and they were involved in the construction works of Bengaluru metro.

Chennai: A three-storeyed building located in Lakkasandra near the Wilson Garden area in Karnataka’s Bengaluru collapsed on Monday. No casualties were reported in the incident. 

According to a report in The News Minute, people who were residing in the building were construction workers and they were involved in the construction works of Bengaluru metro. The residents were said to be evacuated on Sunday after they raised a complaint about the condition of the building. 

Quoting fire service personnel, the report said that the building collapsed as it was in dilapidated condition. The officials had reached the building in the morning and checked to make sure that no one was in the building, the report said and added that the building collapsed a few minutes after the checking was done. 

Residents, as per the report, said that the structure had been shaking for a long time and the civic body had been ignoring their complaints about the condition of the building. 

Speaking to The News Minute, Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation’s MD Anjum Parwez said that workers who were residing in the building were shifted to another facility after complaints about the stability of the building were raised and they had been ensuring that all places where metro construction workers reside are in good shape. 

According to The Hindu, about 15 people were residing in the building that was constructed in 1960. 

Quoting residents, a report in IANS said that even though the building had been leaning slightly for the past two years, the civic body had not bothered itself to evict the residents. Further, the civic body had not taken any action on our complaints on the condition of the building, a resident said.
