Bengaluru: After three BJP-ruled Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh implementing anti-conversion law, the bills is in pipeline to be introduced in Karnataka.
While announcing this, Karnataka Home Minister Araga Jnanendra said that first the state government will study the states which have already implemented the law and will take decision whether to implement it in Karnataka too.
What is anti-conversion law?
The anti-conversion law focuses on preventing inter-faith couples from getting married as the law claims inter-faith marriages involve forced conversions of religion.
According to law, What's the rule for inter-faith marriage?
The couple having inter-faith belief and wanting to get married has to give two months prior notice to the district officials before wedding. but earlier, under Special Marriage ACT, 1954, the inter-faith couple had to give 30-day notice before the wedding.
Is it punishable offence to break law?
A person being convicted of using marriage for forced conversion can be sentenced upto 10-year jail term and further such marriage can be nullified legally.
