In a significant development, BJP and Janata Dal (Secular) are set to contest Lok Sabha elections 2024 in an alliance in Karnataka. Former Karnataka CM BS Yediyurappa said that PM Modi and Deve Gowda have already finalised four seats in the state. However, it must be noted that former PM Deve Gowda said that his party will contest the poll independently.

On alliance with JDS in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls, Former Karnataka CM and BJP leader BS Yediyurappa said, "I am happy that Deve Gowda ji met our Prime Minister and they have already finalised about 4 seats. I welcome them..."

Previously, HD Deve Gowda said that he was not invited to the Opposition meeting as a section of Congress opposed such a move. He said that even Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar wanted him to be there. He also said that JD(S) will contest the polls independently.

However, sources said that JD(S) kept options open to explore ties with BJP and they demanded five Lok Sabha seats for General Elections from BJP.

Further, Gowda also met BJP leaders Amit Shah and JP Nadda in New Delhi.

The BJP-JD(S) were previously in alliance multiple times in the past but they separated due to differences. However, with the announcement, it appears like the leaders have reconciled again. JD(S) contested the 2019 Parliamentary Elections in an alliance with Congress. In the polls, JD(S) contested from 7 seats and won only a single seat. It polled 9.74 per cent of total votes.
