Bypolls Results 2023: Counting of votes is underway for seven seats that underwent bypolls on September 5. As per the early trends on the Election Commission of India's (ECI) website, the Samajwadi Party (SP) candidate is leading from Uttar Pradesh's Ghosi seat. Notably, SP candidate Sudhakar Singh is being supported by the opposition's I.N.D.I.A bloc which is the first direct fight since the formation of the bloc against the BJP. Singh is ahead of BJP's Dara Singh Chauhan from Ghosi by 8,557 votes after six rounds of counting.


On the other hand, All Jharkhand Students Union (AJSU) candidate Yashoda Devi is leading from Jharkhand's Dumri while Jharkhand Mukti Mocha's (JMM) Bebi Devi. Yashoda is leading the numbers with 1265 votes.


In Kerala's Puthuppally, UDF's Congress Candidate Chandy Oommen is leading in early trends with a margin of over 11,360 votes and is followed by CPI(M) candidate Jaick C Thomas.


Meanwhile, Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP), which is ruling the state of Tripura, is leading from both seats where byelections took place last week. From Boxanagar, its candidate Tafajjal Hossain is leading ahead of CPI(M)'s Mizan Hossain with a margin of over 22,000 votes. In Dhanpur, BJP's Bindu Debnath is ahead of CPI(M)'s Kaushik Chanda with a gap of 14,384 votes after four rounds of counting. CPI(M) has decided to boycott the counting alleging large-scale rigging during polling.


However, in Uttarakhand's Bageshwar, a close battle is on between BJP's Parwati Das and Congress candidate Basant Kumar. After three rounds of counting, the BJP is leading the trends with one vote.


In West Bengal, BJP's Tapasi Roy is ahead of the TMC candidate by over 1,500 votes.


The voting for the seven assembly seats in six states took place on September 5 after polls were necessitated on these seats either due to the death of sitting MLAs or their resignation.
