Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation (HDMC) in Karnataka on Wednesday granted permission to celebrate Tipu Jayanti and Kanakadasa Jayanti on November 10 and 11, respectively at Idgah Maidan. This comes days after AIMIM approached the Hubballi civic body seeking permission to celebrate Tipu Jayanti at the controversial Idgah Maidan.
Besides these two festivals, the Hubballi civic body has also given nod to celebrate all other festivals.
"Hubballi Dharwad municipal corporation allows Tipu Jayanti & celebrations of birth anniversaries of national heroes & religious leaders with some conditions - fee has to be remitted to the corporation, appropriate permissions have to be obtained by authorities," Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation Mayor Iresh Anchatageri said as quoted by news agency ANI.
"We haven't differentiated between Christmas or Hindus or Muslims. We've said permission should be given for Kanakadasa Jayanti or any other celebration. We held a meeting and held discussions. The opposition leader has objected to the celebration and said no permissions should be given for any celebration," The Mayor added.
