Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Sunday came down heavily on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bharatiya Janata Party alleging that the PM was busy doing rallies when Manipur was a flashpoint of violence and soldiers martyred in Jammu and Kashmir.
Speaking in Bengaluru, Baghel said, “PM is busy doing campaigns in Karnataka. The Northeast is burning, soldiers are dying, but the PM is not saying anything.”
“There is no discussion on what they will do in the interest of the people of Karnataka, they are just campaigning and seeking votes."
He targeted the BJP saying the party which calls itself ‘double-engine government’ only makes promises but never delivers them.
“There is Congress on one side which fulfils its promise, then there is BJP on other side. The double-engine government which promises return of black-money from abroad, Rs 15 lakh in everyone’s bank accounts and employment, remains unfulfilled.
He also took a jibe at Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma who questioned Rahul Gandhi’s credibility saying Sonia Gandhi was fighting a “lone battle” to establish his son.
Reacting to Sarma’s statement, Baghel said, “Himanta Biswa Sarma changed his party. No one is greedy as much as he is. The Congress party has given him the identity... What is his morality to accuse Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi?"
The elections for 224-member Karnataka Assembly will take place on May 10 and the votes will be counted on May 13.
Baghel was referring to the violence that erupted in the northeastern state of Manipur after the Naga and Kuki tribes opposed the reservation of the majority Meiti community in the Scheduled Tribes list of the state. The violent clashes have so far displaced thousands of people and killed at least 54.
Another instance he mentioned was the killing of five Army jawans in an explosion triggered by terrorists in the thickly forested Kandi area in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir during an operation on Friday.
