Hyderabad: With growing concerns over the new variant Omicron, Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, on Tuesday has hinted that the government might implement precautionary curbs to keep the new variant at the bay. The CM reiterated that strict measures would be put in place but have ruled out the possibilities of another lockdown in the state.
"We are keeping a strict check at the airport on international passengers arriving from countries where the new Covid variant has been detected. All international passengers will be tested at the airport on arrival," said Karnataka CM as reported by ANI.
"Instructions have been given to increase the number of tests per day. The Health Minister will be holding a meeting with officials and experts, the outcome of which will be shared with me, following which we may take certain decisions keeping in view the current circumstances," Bommai said as quoted by Economic Times.
The state government has asked the schools to postpone their public events. The Bommai government has also intensified screening of international passengers at the airports.
Meanwhile, Health Minister K Sudhakar also emphasised that strict measures will be imposed and have requested the people for gatherings to follow precautionary measures.
